| Not actual former LSATs. Misprints on questions!I have taken three practice tests so far. Two were out of The Official LSAT SuperPrep, which uses actual former LSATs. The third test I took was the first test appearing in this book.
This book does not use real LSATs. This was very obvious when I discovered a significant typo (one that literally made a question impossible to answer and made me waste valuable time) in the first section of the test. How do I know it was a typo? Because the answer key reprinted the full question correctly. Taking a practice test is a serious time commitment. I don't have time to waste taking tests with results that may have been skewed because of poor editing.
Maybe I was having a bad day. Or, maybe other factors, like time-wasting typos and the fact that the questions may not be as rigorously tested as actual LSAT questions, influenced my score. Whatever the reason, I actually scored a full 10-15 points lower on this test than I had on my previous 2 LSAT tests. I seriously question whether or not Princeton Review practice tests are accurate predictors of actual LSAT scores. If not, who needs to have their confidence shaken before they take the test?
The only positive thing I can say about this book is that the practice tests do include the new comparative reading comprehension questions. However, this is to be expected since the book is dated 2009 and they came out with these questions in 2006. But unfortunately many other books don't have them because their tests are older. I just purchased all the individual tests available since June of 2006 at $8 each to be able to practice these. I haven't found a book containing the actual tests that is recent enough to include them (although honestly, I have so many general review books now that I didn't look that hard).
My advice is don't waste your money on this book. Use practice tests with actual former LSATs. And for studying help, I have read PowerScore is the way to go. Just bought their Logical Reasoning and Logic Games Bibles. Read more...

| Don't BuyPlease don't buy this book if you're studying for the LSATs. I picked it because it was relatively inexpensive and included several practice tests. The logic section had some useful tips for mapping out problems; however, that's where I end my positive comments about this book. The section on Logical Reasoning (50% of the actual LSAT) offered very brief explanations on how to answer different types of questions. But then I found the explanations to the "drill" answers (practice problems) quite confusing and often succinct as "this point is irrelevant". I think shouted "but why?!!?" at the several times while going through this section - it felt the author was just too lazy to offer a full explanation for the reasoning involved.
Additionally, the book claims practice tests are "carefully model(led) on the actual LSAT." I think the authors must have a very loose defination of "carefully" which I didn't quite realize when I plunged into the diagnostic test. I did horrible and thought it was me until I found the answers and explanations consistently lacking in sound reasoning. For example, in one question (15 of the logical reasoning in the first practice test), the question asks for an answer that is "assumed by the argument" of the stimulus. The answer that the book says is correct is an inference of the argument, not an assumption. One of many, many flaws.
I'm going to request a refund of my money. Instead of this book, I recommend the books from PowerScore which are much more comprehensive and include *real* LSAT questions and the 10 Real LSAT books just to get some more practice in. Please, please don't buy this book. Read more...

| General but Helpful Overview!I was pleasantly surprised by this book, written by Kaplan. Although some of their LSAT books were not helpful to me, this "strategic approach" to applying to law schools was quite effective in offering solid information. The strongest sections of this book deal with how to write the personal statement, and how to create a special theme for your application. These sections give practical and insightful advice, allowing readers to hone in on their strengths and weaknesses. The main drawback of this book is that most chapters are brief and pretty general. If I could suggest to Kaplan how to improve this book, I'd tell them to expand their shorter sections with more indepth material. Overall, I'd recommend that readers check this book at their local bookstores first. It's possible that you can obtain all the secrets and tips on a brief skim of the book. For others who have not done much reading on applying to law schools, this book should be useful to them. Read more...

| A Worthy Dissident ApproachDifferent logic games methods have their own advantages and disadvantages. Ultimately, the criterion for assessing them is their effect on your game performance. Though some reviewers seem to fall in the dichotomy of "either it helps everyone or it helps no one", (which would explain their conclusion that those who disagree are deluded) I concede that different methods may have different effects on the performance of different individuals.
With those provisos out of the way, I'll talk about why I like the book. It challenges the "make deductions first" orthodoxy and offers a different way to attack the games. It is possible to attack many (perhaps all) logic games without making initial deductions. I didn't believe this at first, but it is a falsifiable proposition, and it has largely withstood scrutiny in my personal experience. I can complete most logic games more quickly and accurately by using this method.
The book's step by step approach allows one to effectively use previous work to attack questions. The Powerscore and Kaplan books I have used simply tell their students to use previous work to answer questions without laying out exactly which situations call for one to use their limited time to scan for it.
The main downside of this method lies in its applicability to sequencing games. When I used Powerscore, I found sequencing games to be among the easier game types. Applying this book's methodology to "pure sequencing" games appears to take more time. Perhaps this is because, in pure sequencing games, the initial rules more frequently allow for useful and relatively easy deductions.
Overall, it's a dissident opinion well worth considering. For me, it's hands down the best logic games book I've come across.
